Dr Debbie Forbes is an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellow and clinical PhD student, studying the role of antiviral immunity in autoimmune neurological diseases such as Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMO).

Debbie aims to identify new biomarkers to measure antiviral activity in the blood and spinal fluid of patients with autoimmune neurological diseases. Biomarkers like this can identify patients that can benefit from drugs that block antiviral immunity and to design efficient precise clinical trials in the future.

Debbie graduated in medicine from the University of Dundee in 2018 and earned a first class intercalated degree in Neuropharmacology & Behaviour in 2016. She joined the Anne Rowling Clinic team in 2020 as an Anne Rowling Clinical Trials Fellow working on the MND-SMART and MS-STAT2 trials. During her PhD she continues clinical work in the Neuroinflammation clinic and on the STAR-MS clinical trial.
